Remarkable landscape painted in oil on canvas measuring 98cm x 72cm in height (120cm x 95cm are the measurements of its gilded frame, contemporary to the painting), and most likely executed by the famous landscape painter Gaspard Dughet (Rome 1615 - 1675) or his close circle. In fact, looking carefully at this painting reveals his ways of treating the landscape composition, asymmetrically and with precise architectural references typical of his compositions, and the same applies to the types and style of the minute figures executed in a sketched manner.
In this country landscape taken at dawn, in which travelers are on their way and a hunter with his greyhound appears on the left, while further away in the forest the shepherd can be seen bivouacking with his little dog and watching his flock descend the ridge. The landscape is captured so faithfully that it seems to see those typical landscapes of the areas near Orte, probably identifiable in the background.
The painting is in excellent condition and can already be used in furnishings, but a professional cleaning of the canvas can bring out more vivid and cerulean colors, typical of Dughet, as well as some other further naturalistic details, given that the canvas shows yellowing due to dirt sedimented over time.
The painting has a beautiful gilded frame from the late 17th century.
