A fascinating gentleman with his armor, immortalized in an authoritative and proud attitude, is the subject of our portrait, of good quality and made by an author belonging to the northern Italian, Venetian culture, of the early 17th century.
Although his role as a knight is emphasized, the pose is regal, perfectly portrayed in profile, flanked by a feathered helmet resting on a table, while wearing rich ceremonial armor.
Both in composition and in the style of representation, the work fits into the long tradition of military portraiture typical of the 16th century, not far from the results achieved by Titian, with an elegant and manneristic mixture of styles, between its Venetian nature, timid Tuscan influences, and Nordic suggestions.
Numerous stylistic clues bring this painting closer to the figurative culture of Verona in the years between the 16th and 17th centuries, and in particular to the figure of Felice Brusasorci (Verona, 1539 – Verona, 1605), son of Domenico who had been active both in Verona and in Mantua and Vicenza.
