Description:
Spectacular Sardinian Dominican rosary made in the mid-1800s with a 10-petal rose window (or paten), the typical pendant of Sardinian rosaries that replaces the cross in traditional costume. Handmade in 18 ct gold and filigree (750 title) like the whole rosary, with garnets and mother-of-pearl. 7-post crown with 10 Hail Marys in garnets, Pater with filigree gold button (cm.136; grams 35). Appendix with splitter in perforated and engraved gold plate on both sides: it represents a crowned double-headed eagle with two heads separated from the neck and facing in two opposite directions (cm.2x2). Descending a filigree bow with central bezel on both sides (grams 13) to finish with the rose window (grams 28) composed of ten cròxiu de nuxèdda (translated: hazelnut shell). In the center, always on both sides, as per tradition, it houses a sacred image surrounded by a gold frame with engravings: one seems to be the image of Saint Rita in mother-of-pearl (cm.2; h. cm.2.5) worked openwork and engraved with a burin (photo n°7) while, in the back, we find another sacred image that seems to refer to San. Francesco di Paola (photo n°8). The rosary measures cm.136 + cm.13. Paten measurement (photo n°9): cm.Ø4.5; h. cm.5.5; thickness (cm.0.8: photo n°6). Bow cm.4; h.3.5; (photo n°4). It is in perfect condition. The rosary weighs a total of 78 grams.
