Beautiful and interesting portrait of Cardinal Giulio Sacchetti of remarkable pictorial and executive quality. The representation draws inspiration from the famous portrait of the cardinal, now at the Borghese Gallery, executed by Pietro Berrettini known as Pietro da Cortona, a faithful painter of the Sacchetti family, who executed it in 1626 on the occasion of the effigy's elevation to the purple.
Our painting shows remarkable pictorial qualities and it is possible to refer it to the close circle of another portrait painter, who had enormous success in Rome in the second half of the 17th century, under the star of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, namely Gian Battista Gaulli known as Baciccia (Genoa 1639 - Rome 1709). Stylistically derived from his portraits are the chromatic harmony of colors and contrasts and the vigor and relief of the anatomies of the figure, as well as a quick and pictorial brushstroke.
The painting was relined in the 19th century, at which time the carved and lacquered 19th-century frame was probably applied.
The dimensions including the frame are: 51cm x 63cm in height.
We attach to the sale a historical certificate of authenticity.
