The elderly lady washes the long hair of the young woman, elegantly dressed for the occasion. The scene is enlivened by an affectionate child with the inevitable little dog. The painting is a typical work of Flemish production that saw David Teniers II and his pupils among the greatest protagonists, with an infinite variety of both internal and outdoor depictions of rural life and is easily attributable to his workshop. It is presented in excellent condition with a beautiful contemporary frame in carved and gilded wood.
