Description:
A beautiful and important Venetian drop-front desk, or Bureau, dating back to the Louis XV period, a refined example of 18th-century cabinetmaking.
The structure is characterized by a wavy line on the front, a typical shape called "crossbow", and by a sophisticated workmanship of the surfaces.
The furniture is built in solid fir wood, with an elegant walnut and walnut burl veneer, which covers the entire surface, masterfully arranged to create grain patterns and chromatic contrasts: each element (drawers, drop-front, sides, top) consists of a walnut "end grain" frame and a central panel in walnut burl. (the "end grain" veneer has the strips with the grain perpendicular to the edge of the furniture or panel)
The chiseled bronze escutcheons and handles blend perfectly with the design of the furniture, adding a decorative touch without weighing down the composition. The drop-front conceals a compartment equipped with small drawers and compartments, designed for the storage of documents and valuables.
The base, consisting of "end grain" frames, follows the same shape, connecting to the bracket feet that support the structure with lightness and elegance. The whole perfectly expresses the Venetian taste of the 18th century, in which craftsmanship is combined with refined stylistic research, giving life to a piece of furniture that is not only functional, but also of great aesthetic impact.
