Splendid oil on canvas, painted by a talented painter of the Roman school who probably worked in the Roman workshop of Cavalier Perugino, given the numerous stylistic and iconographic similarities with his later works.
The beautiful Cleopatra is depicted here in the fateful moment of tormented despair in which, overcome by discouragement, she decides to kill herself by being bitten by the poisonous Asp or Egyptian cobra that she holds firmly in her right hand.
The resounding drapery of her garments leaves no doubt about the Roman origin of the painter and are endowed with a lively chromatism that overall gives charm to the composition.
The canvas, which is mounted on an antique frame, but with some problems given that over the centuries it has been restored to wood, is in excellent condition and does not need restoration.
The dimensions of the painting are: 97cm x 134cm (canvas); 152cm x 113cm (with frame)
