Oil on canvas
Era 1760c.
Canvas cm. 74 x 60
Frame cm. 98 x 86
This unpublished Venetian view, painted in oil on canvas in the mid-1700s, presents all the characteristics of Gabriele Bella's simple and naive art. A self-taught Venetian artist, he has recently been rediscovered and re-evaluated for the documentary value of his views that depict scenes of life and historical events in the golden years of the Serenissima.
His name remained unknown compared to the many contemporary artists with greater pictorial technique, obtaining only in recent years a considerable success and the right recognition. His paintings, in fact, always rich in boats and characters, are highly sought after by collectors.
The canvas published here is typical of his repertoire and depicts the view of the Rio della Sensa with all the gondolas on parade in front of the palace doors.
The painting is in very good condition, already relined and complete with an important antique gilded frame that greatly enhances the wall effect.
