Oil on canvas painting, depicting an important figure holding a small book with a coat of arms on the cover, within a black frame with gold borders, attributable to Bernardo Strozzi (Rossiglione (GE) 1581-1644 Venice) Bernardo Strozzi, known as il Cappuccino or the Genoese Priest, was an Italian painter and religious figure of the 17th century. He is considered one of the most important and prolific exponents of Italian Baroque painting.
A work with the same book and quartered coat of arms appears in a portrait (attributed to Strozzi, according to Jacobsen), at the palace of Genoa. In 1824, the palace was sold to the Savoy family with all the furnishings, but subsequently, Mortari recognized elements of Iberian portraiture in the painting; in any case, the coat of arms (identified by Leoncini) would have belonged to the Genoese family of Follo (a very ancient family. Enrico was a judge of Verona in 1223. Icembardo, as advisor, subscribed to the peace between the Bresciani, Mantovani, and Veronesi in 1279). Lastly, Manzetti highlighted that these data suggest a commission in Genoa between 1634 and 1635, before Strozzi's move to Venice.
