Jacob Petit (1796-1868) was a master of French porcelain, known for his highly decorated and scenically impactful creations. After studying at Sèvres, he opened his own independent manufacture and became famous for his reinterpreted rococo style, characterized by bright colors, gilding, and exuberant ornamentation. His works were highly sought after by the European nobility and often featured romantic and oriental motifs.
The "Old Paris" clocks from his production are considered among the finest examples of his work and are highly sought after by collectors. The specimen in question, with its decorative richness and sentimental theme, is a perfect example of Petit's taste and mastery.
