Pair of porcelain vases with Pompeian style decoration on an orange background, sphinx-shaped handles, Paris, late 18th - early 19th century
This pair of baluster-shaped Parisian porcelain vases with a salmon background features a beautiful painted decoration with the characteristic taste of the 19th century. On the body, a scene set in Antiquity appears in the reserve, showing a group of people dressed in a classical style in an interior overlooking a landscape. Gilded friezes mark the foot and neck. Two winged female figures in biscuit are applied as handles. The base is a square section in porcelain painted to imitate royal red marble. The quality of the shape, material, and designs are examples of the great Parisian manufacture of the first quarter of the 19th century.
