Guilloché mirror with shells - 19th century.
Splendid and unique octagonal mirror, called Guilloché, of good size.
The ebonized frame under consideration features a carving called guilloché, whose band presents itself as a succession of smooth grooves alternating with bands carved with continuous waves.
This particular ornamental work refers, specifically, to wooden or metallic surfaces, made using specific tools called "guillocher," which allow you to create a repetitive pattern of engraved, linear or wavy lines (as in this frame).
The octagonal shape makes it even rarer.
In a later period, shells of various sizes were applied in the inner groove (easily removable if desired).
Complete with its mercury mirror.
The state of conservation is excellent, only a few shells are missing, easily recoverable on the market.
Dimensions: cm. 107 x 92 - thickness cm. 8.
Period: 19th century.
