The composition stands out for the careful rendition of the light that filters through the trees and is reflected in the river's water, creating a suggestive contrast between the shadows and the delicate lights. Rayper, through his verist style, not only portrays the landscape, but makes it live, giving great importance of to natural textures, from rock to foliage. The scene is evocative and full of the romantic melancholy typical of nineteenth-century landscape painting, with the sky subtly blending with the earth, the mountains in the background and their perfect reflection in the water: everything collaborates to create a sense of depth and tranquility.
