Vienna, circa 1810. Very rare and admirable Viennese Empire secretaire in almost intact condition, with original patina and polishing. It is finely veneered in burr walnut; interiors in maple and maple masterfully pen-painted (a typical Viennese Empire technique). The lower part has a curved front, with two doors concealing maple burl veneered compartments and a cherry veneered drawer. A special stand-up writing surface and a second internal surface concealed by a drawer, with original period leather cover. Intact carved and gold-leafed caryatids. Particular ebonized elements. Egyptian mythological figures embossed in brass. Height 137.5 cm, width 103 cm, depth 43.5-82 cm when open. In museum-like condition. The Viennese interpretation of the Empire style is considered the most precious and rare ever made. This is because it is identified by a sober and elegant representation of the "retour d'Egièpte" in contrast to the French style, which is monumental, pompous, boxy, and overflowing with gilded bronzes.
In museum-like condition, with original patina and polishing, refreshed with shellac finish applied with a pad using a museum standard technique.
