Details (link)
This is a pair of friezes carved in bas-relief, depicting respectively the Allegory of Autumn, with a male figure holding ears of wheat in his hands, and the Allegory of Spring, personified instead by a female figure holding a flower basket.
Both figures, depicted standing and half-naked as if to evoke two deities, wrapped only in fluttering draperies, rest on capitals adorned with acanthus leaves, in Renaissance style.
The carving that characterizes these bas-reliefs is part of 17th-century Flemish production and was most likely originally placed on the sides of a fireplace or a door, or set in the paneling of a patrician palace.
