Vienna circa 1810, a rare Empire commode with caryatids on a curved front. In practically intact condition. Refined piece of furniture in the rare style of the early Viennese Empire, veneered in blond walnut feather, with details in thuja feather and elegant maple inlays. Intact caryatids in carved linden wood, lacquered and gilded with gold leaf, as is typical of the Empire style in Vienna. The lower drawers move outwards, as was the case in the most valuable and representative pieces. The work is in original patina, consolidated and with a shellac finish applied with a pad using a museum standard technique. The hardware, very refined in embossed brass with palmette and architectural motifs typical of the period, is almost entirely original to the period. The only three missing central vents have been masterfully reproduced in fusion from the original model traced in lost wax from the others. Measurements: 125 cm wide x 95 cm high x 60 cm deep.
