Painting Landscape with Preaching Scene

Oil on canvas. Venetian school of the 18th century. The large Nordic landscape, with green mountainous slopes in the middle of which a river flows, is inhabited by several figures in the foreground: a group of people is listening to a young man standing in the center, who announces something, pointing, with his arm outstretched towards the top, the sun that breaks through the dark clouds. It evokes a preaching of Saint John the Baptist, although no iconographic element specifically refers to this character. The painting, restored and relined, is mounted on an early 20th-century frame.
