Oil on canvas painting depicting Artemisia preparing to drink the ashes of her deceased husband Mausolus before building the famous Mausoleum in his memory. The dramatic subject is dear to the painters of the 17th century. Our painting can be traced with certainty to the master Pietro della Vecchia, born in Venice in 1603 and died there in 1678, official painter of the Republic of Venice. It is accompanied by an authoritative technical sheet by Professor Bernard Aikema, who includes it among the works of Pietro della Vecchia. The painting measures 61 cm x 78 cm without the frame, and 84 cm x 93 cm with the non-contemporary frame. It is presented in perfect condition and has not undergone any particular restoration work. Like all our objects, it is sold with a certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law.
