Balduino Alessandro, "Cavalcade", oil on canvas, signed, 19th century
This painting by Alessandro Balduino, signed in the lower right, depicts a dynamic scene of horsemen moving through an open countryside. The horsemen are wearing traditional clothing, with wide-brimmed hats, and their figures contrast with the lush green landscape.
The right side of the painting is dominated by nature: a wooded area with trees and lush vegetation overlooking a stream. The water reflects the surrounding greenery, creating a tranquil atmosphere that contrasts with the energy of the horsemen. The soft, subdued light from the sky contributes to a calm and balanced atmosphere.
Balduino demonstrates particular attention to naturalistic details and a sense of depth, highlighting the contrast between the human and natural elements.

Balduino Alessandro, a student of E. Gamba at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, began with works of literary subject matter presented in 1869 at the Promotrice in Turin (Ulrico and Lida) and in Milan (Renzo and Dr. Azzeccagarbugli). In the 1870s and 1880s, he continuously participated in exhibitions in Turin, Genoa, and Milan, presenting, in addition to landscapes, genre paintings (Colta in flagrante! [Caught in the act!], exhibited in Genoa in 1879; Come viaggiavano i nostri nonni [How our grandparents traveled], exhibited in Milan in 1882). He was also an etcher and a good ceramist.
