Oval Box with Red and Silver Decorations. Of oval shape, it is constructed of curved and lacquered beech wood with floral and fanciful polychrome decorations in the predominant tones of red and green. In the center, in a circular field, the letters of the trigram IHS (Iesus Hominum Salvator) suggest a liturgical or otherwise religious use of the container. The decoration, where still legible, shows a series of fine gold volutes on a marbled background. Italy, 1700.
