Early 19th Century Italian glass fronted and black painted poplar wood small table theca or cabinet case from Arezzo, Tuscany region.
Opening from the back panel, closed by a hook with an eyelet, this rare tabletop theca stands on a stepped basement, has a poplar moulding frame throughout, both sides are carved with lozenge patterns and it is topped by a fronted scrolling motif crown.
This is a lovely antique Italian case, the back panel is lined inside with red velvet and golden paper profiles, which could be removed. Dating back to early 1800 and in good used age related condition, with minimal scratched and original patina but replaced glass. This item is usually used to show small collections of miniatures, medals, pocket watches or small items, since inside it has a minimal depth of 3 cm.
