Carved and gilded Baroque wooden frieze
Louis XIV period
Liguria, 17th century
Measures 122 x h. 70
Excellent condition
Splendid Baroque wooden pulpit crest carved in high relief with all the symbols of the Holy Roman Church.
The frieze depicts a composition of ecclesiastical elements arranged in a scenographic manner and with remarkable volume. The considerable thickness of the wooden panel allows one to identify the liturgical vestments and traditional sacred objects in their three-dimensionality. It is easy to recognize the Gospel in the central part adorned with the priestly stole and the pair of candlesticks with the key to the Celestial Kingdom. Below the Gospel is placed the Holy Water bucket while the aspergillum protrudes to the left of the Gospel.
The frieze is truly of remarkable workmanship, vigorously carved, of great charm and of exceptional wall effect; moreover, it is in excellent condition without any restoration and with all the original mecca gilding. The dimensions are also optimal as a headboard, with a length of 122 cm. and a height of 70.
A certificate of authenticity and lawful origin is issued.
