Oil on canvas painting measuring 45 x 55 cm without frame and 65 x 75 cm with frame, depicting an outdoor peasant scene of the Flemish school from the late 1600s to the early 1700s.
The painting you asked me to examine is an oil on canvas depicting a peasant scene with a clear praise of bucolic life, typical of the modus operandi of Flemish painting that follows the style of Joost De Momper first up to Jan Frans Van Bloemen then.
In this canvas we immediately perceive the overflowing personality of Flemish painting easily intuible for the traditional chromatic range present here and for a clear preference for the drawing where both the richness of details and a very methodical and rational arrangement of each individual character or object emerge.
This composition, painted in the full Flemish artistic development of the late 1600s, perfectly reflects the phase that painting is experiencing in those moments halfway between a sense of Mannerist inspiration and an adherence to the naturalistic observation that the Caravaggesque imprint developed a few years earlier.
