17th century crossbow lock from South Tyrol  Translated
Description:
Fascinating crossbow lock from Trentino, consisting of the supporting plate, the forked thrust spring, the bolt with decorative carvings on the barrel and a curl for manual pushing from the inside. The bolt mounts double teeth that determine the double throw. The leaf-shaped fixing bracket, the square-shaped ingenuity cover plate with rounded edges and the crossbow-shaped side bracket complete the lock. From the rear, another spring activated by a tooth on the key that rotates on the central pin unlocks the bolt and allows it to slide. From the inside, to unlock the bolt, the end of the spring is manually operated, with one hand, while with the other the bolt itself is slid. The key is female, with the section near the head in a solid "bean" shape, the comb with two rows with vertical fernettes (one per row) which, however, no longer find the tricks inside the ingenuity, lost over time. Above the comb is the pin that acts on the external spring that unlocks the bolt. Traces of copper and brass brazing tell of ancient repairs. The unorthodox shape of the key head may have been applied to the body of the original key following an ancient breakage. Beautiful brown patina. Dimensions 35*21. Key 18 cm  Translated
