Austrian Empire 1740 ca. Interesting and very rare game table with the contemporary function of a center table and extendable. Often, following the logic of practicality typical of the German people, we come across interesting antique high-cabinetry furnishings with multiple uses, sometimes with ingenious mechanical devices, created to combine different functionalities. This characteristic is present in all eras, and will then be best expressed in Neoclassicism with the splendid mechanical furnishings of David Roetgen and later in the Biedermeier period. In this case, this versatility of use is visible in our interesting Rococo table that can be used as a center table when closed, as a game table when open (for checkers, backgammon, tic-tac-toe, or mill board game). The work is in conditions of practical integrity, masterfully veneered and inlaid with exotic and fruit woods (satinwood - light mahogany, amaranth, walnut, cherry, plum, ebony, poplar burl, etc.). Restored and consolidated with a conservative criterion according to the rules of ancient craftsmanship with a shellac finish applied with a pad using a museum-standard technique on a fully preserved original patina. Excellent dimensions which, when fully extended, reach 213 x 90 cm (for the top). Measures when the top is closed cm. 117x90, height. 79. With a splendid warm patina and golden light.
