The painting depicts a magnificent view of the place that represents the heart and soul of the city, the center of gravity of the Lagoon.
The most beautiful Square in the world offers the fantastic view of St. Mark's Basin with its wonderful scenery.
The panorama is symmetrical,
like the fruit of a theatrical fantasy.
On the left side of the canvas are depicted the Doge's Palace, the column supporting the winged Lion of the Evangelist, and the Island of San Giorgio with the Basilica and the bell tower.
On the right side, the National Marciana Library, the column of San Todaro, and the island of Giudecca.
In the center of the canvas, a luminous horizon is lost to infinity between the two islands.
The square, bounded by the bulk of the two famous palaces, is teeming with typically Venetian characters.
Among other things, in addition to the inevitable traditional costumes, gendarmes, friars, and beggars can be seen.
A row of gondolas are docked on the Riva degli Schiavoni, and a splendid sailing ship heads towards the Grand Canal.
The painting is of excellent quality, and the Author, gifted with an excellent hand, very convincingly describes palaces and monuments, characters, and boats.
The work presents all the characteristics of the most classic Venetian painting and should be placed in the best nineteenth-century production, which maintained the qualitative standard of the Masters of the 'Golden Century'.
The painting is in excellent condition.
The canvas has been applied to a wooden board.
The gilded frame is coeval and has been restored in our laboratory.
