The pair of sculptures, made of finely carved, lacquered and gilded wood, was created as torch holders and is a valuable example of 16th-century wooden sculpture characteristic of Tuscany.
The sculptures depict two angels, portrayed with wavy and gilded hair, lacquered complexion, a robe with soft drapery, and gilded footwear. The two figures specularly support a large carved and gilded cornucopia, on whose upper end is inserted the gilded metal bobeche, which held torches for lighting rooms. The two angels rest on a wooden base carved with scrolls and gilded, with four lacquered claw feet, and on the front side, the faces of a lacquered cherub with gilded wings, which frame his profile.
The sculptures, designed to be enjoyed from a frontal view, are very decorative, appreciable in pairs or individually, placed in a raised position, above bases, chests of drawers and consoles, or in a staggered position on a staircase. They can also be adapted as lamps. Very refined, thanks to the brightness of the gold leaf, they are suitable for both antique furnishings and modern contexts, in which they will bring the timeless warmth and charm of the antique.
