The painting depicts a vast hilly landscape where the ruins of an ancient Temple and a small rural village stand out amidst the lush vegetation at the center of the canvas.
The scene portrays a particularly serene atmosphere enlivened by several figures by the banks of a river and others near a stream, while in the foreground, two horses laden with goods and a small dog playing with its owner are well-defined.
The magnificent panorama is characterized by the warm and cool-toned light of a beautiful sunset.
The author of the canvas unleashes a luministic rendering of extraordinary effect with a fiery sky behind the mountains that turns blue in a fantastic play of colors.
The foliage of the trees and the dense grey clouds contribute to making the atmospheric conditions even more fascinating.
The work should be attributed to a Flemish artist working in the workshop of the German master Johann Heinrich Roos, the founder of a family of pastoral landscape painters, the most famous of whom is his son Philipp Peter, known by the nickname Rosa da Tivoli for his long stay in the Lazio region.
The painting is the synthesis of his painting where the landscape invariably expresses a bucolic setting with the presence of figures and animals, towers and ruins, villages and lush trees in backlight, always in an atmospheric context of great beauty.
His works are mainly inspired by the Dutch Nicolaes Berchem and Karel Dujardin from whom he learned both the pictorial technique and the predisposition towards the idyllic and pastoral landscape.
The painting is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity according to the law.
