French Navy telescope, mid-19th century.
The telescope is signed "Edmond Lorieux, Paris".
Edmond Marie Lorieux (1832-1909) was a French engineer, Inspector General of Mines, Secretary of the General Council of Mines from 1879 to 1888, Chairman of the Statistical Commission for the Mining and Steam Industry.
He also provided the Navy archives with maps and plans of marine, astronomical and other instruments for scientific use.
The telescope consists of a brass tube covered in dark brown leather.
The telescope measures 78 cm closed and 93 cm extended, diameter 6 cm.
The lenses are original and in good condition.
