Drypoint by the famous artist Marina Battigelli, depicting the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
Painter, illustrator, and writer (sometimes under the pseudonym Agnese Lulli), she was born in Cairo to parents from Trieste and made her debut very young at an exhibition of etchings in 1915 and then in The Gospel Told to a Child by His Mother (1921), written and illustrated by her. A debut that seems to mark her production: of the almost 90 titles she collaborated on, about thirty are dedicated to children's religious literature. She collaborated with a dozen publishers (including UTET in 1940 for Quo Vadis? in the famous Scala d'Oro series) and magazines such as Il giornalino della Domenica, La Lettura, and Il Novellino, as well as the then-flourishing market for illustrated postcards. At the end of 2008, she was also (briefly) seen in the little-known exhibition "Serenant et illuminant" in Turin on the great illustrated books for children of SEI. A few years ago, an essay was published on her engravings, edited by Sergio Landi for the Center for Studies on Figurative Arts based in Castel di Poggio in the municipality of Fiesole.
