Hans (or Jan) de Jode settled in Vienna around 1659. He had previously passed through Italy and admired the paintings of Salvator Rosa, Codazzi and Ghisolfi, being influenced by them. De Jode's paintings are dominated by an exhilarating pictorial fantasy, characterized by a fluid and rapid brushstroke.
Two works by the master de Jode can be seen in the Castelvecchio museum in Verona.
