The son of a goldsmith and engraver, he was encouraged by his father to study fine arts.
In the years 1949-1950, he participated in the creation of the important Verzocchi collection, on the theme of work, sending, with a self-portrait, The Shoemaker; the Collection is now preserved in the Pinacoteca Civica of Forlì.
In 1953 he competed with the work Composition at the VII Michetti Prize, winning the purchase prize from the Cariplo Foundation.
