Carlo Magini (Fano PU 1720 - 1806) "Still lifes of breads, fruits, vegetables and vases" pair of oils on canvas
width cm. 160 height cm. 75
In this pair of paintings, the apparently arbitrary arrangement of Carlo Magini's still lifes of everyday kitchen objects and simple foods is reprised. After Longhi's analyses in the 1950s, the painter is considered one of the greatest naturalists of the eighteenth century. In all his works, the placement of objects and food is attentive and refined, so as to simultaneously emphasize both the diversity of surfaces and materials and the play of forms. In Magni's works, the light is clear and strong so as to clearly delimit the objects, but at the same time never too intense as to make them lose their three-dimensionality.
