An interesting and highly elegant piece of furniture, this commode-chest of drawers is typical of Roman production and widespread throughout the Papal States in the mid-17th century. It features an architectural layout with four pillars that highlights the inverted pyramid pilasters, which jut out and enhance the importance of the piece. The base of the pilasters at the corners consists of numerous elaborately carved pedestals.
The drawers are veneered in walnut burl and decorated with fine and rich molding with various levels of carving on the front. The same goes for the beautiful sides, which are also decorated with framed carvings in various orders. The single-board veneered top is also beautiful.
The locks and exterior bronzes are antique.
A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
