Pair of engravings on canvas paper with wooden frame. The Battles of Alexander: The Battle of Erie, Alexander and Porus. Important pair of engravings. This pair of prints belongs to the suite of the Battles of Alexander which Girard Audran interpreted in etching and burin between 1672 and 1678, a decade after the execution date of Charles Le Brun's paintings. Le Brun, the king's first painter from 1662, brought Audran, then in Rome, to Paris and obtained his appointment as ordinary engraver to the king. The measurements provided include the frame. the frames are from a later period. both need restoration.
