Small silk tapestry, with some inserts applied in painted canvas, corresponding to the faces and hands of the figures. The scene depicts Plato's Academy, with the philosopher sitting on the ground, his back against a tree, dressed in a tunic and a mantle that drapes over him, holding a tablet or parchment in his right hand. He is absorbed in giving a philosophy lesson, with the young students surrounding him and with one of whom he is particularly interacting. Behind them, a rural landscape inhabited by men who are carrying out agricultural work: some sowing, some harvesting, and some, still, felling a tree with an ax. In the background, to the right of the main group, a turreted building can be glimpsed, while to the left there is an ancient herm. Housed in a coeval molded frame with multiple orders, with ebonized parts alternating with others veneered in tortoiseshell.
