Beautiful oil painting depicting a brawl scene at the well in Venice, in the San Stae area of Venice. The painting is signed and dated Giacomelli 1888. The painting measures 105 x 65 cm. The author, known above all for his romantic historical subjects and for his love of Risorgimento themes, was also a portrait painter, active mainly in Venice but also in Turin, where he worked as a painter for the Savoy court from 1839 to 1849. We find him present, in 1830, enrolled at the Venetian Academy where he began to exhibit with success, establishing himself in 1838 with the historical subject canvas entitled Giovanna Grey Executed and other paintings inspired by the story of Doge Marino Faliero, particularly popular at the time.
