Swiss Mondia Sea Scout watch, circa 1955.
The Mondia brand was founded in 1935 in Le Locle, Switzerland.
Over the decades, the company has offered the public timepieces equipped with interesting technical solutions, such as alarm clocks, launched in the mid-1950s and powered by the AS 1475 movement, or manual winding watches with a power reserve indicator, also powered by AS calibers.
In the 1960s, Mondia aimed to expand its production, trying to steal customers from the countless watch companies that populated the market in those decades.
The volcanic 1970s brought the biggest upheavals: in 1969, the House entered the "Movado-Zenith-Mondia" holding and the partnership with the Maison de l'Etoile allowed Mondia to benefit from Zenith calibers, cases and various components, therefore of high quality, while maintaining a competitive price.
Mondia and Zenith definitively separated in 1999, when the Maison du Locle was acquired by the LVMH luxury division.
Movement signed "Mondia" caliber AS ST (A. Schild Sa), 17 jewels Swiss.
