13x18 bellows camera, made by “Alfred Engel-Feitknecht”. Around 1890.
Alfred Engel-Feitknecht was one of the first in Switzerland to begin commercial production of photographic equipment and cameras in the 1870s. The cameras were said to be considered the best products on the world market.
Engel also specialized in the distribution of supplies for the photographic industry, thus acquiring a leading position in Switzerland.
In 1891 he filed the first patent for an interchangeable system for glass plate cameras. A subsequent patent followed in 1899.
After Alfred Engel's death (1899), his successors moved the company headquarters to Biel in 1902. The company was then founded by former employees under the name Roth & Cie., then Perrot & Cie from 1915.
The camera is constructed of mahogany wood with brass inserts.
Complete with 3 mahogany Chassis, "Boyer" lens with roll shutter complete with cable (working) and a large black case with red velvet interior.
The device is in excellent condition with all brass inserts present, various adjustments, everything is working.
The bellows are in good condition.
