A family of Milanese booksellers, publishers, and printers. The initiator was Francesco Cesare (1736-1799) who, having inherited a bookstore from his uncle Giulio Scaccia, led it for fifty years, making it one of the centers of Milanese cultural life, where C. Beccaria and the Verri brothers, G. Parini, A. Volta, etc. gathered.
He was succeeded by his sons Pietro (1770-1819) and Giuseppe (1784-1861), who named (1812) the company Fratelli V., distinguishing themselves in the publication of books and art prints. Pietro's two sons, Francesco (1809-1895) and Antonio (1813-1876), gave rise to two separate publishing houses: Casa Editrice dott. Francesco Vallardi (18 Antonio Vallardi Editore specialized in popular, scholastic, and cartographic works.
Antonio was succeeded by his sons Pietro (1852-1927) and Giuseppe (1854-1916), who strengthened the school sector with the production of textbooks, teaching materials, and series for children.
The activity continued under the direction of Giuseppe's son Antonio (1882-1965), whose son Giuseppe (1925-93) separated from the company in 1969, continuing the publishing activity under the Vallardi Industrie Grafiche brand. Subsequently (1970), Antonio V. was taken over by Garzanti.
The globe is made of pressed cardboard, with a solid wood base.
