Luigi Premazzi (Milano 1814-Costantinopoli 1891)

"Church Interior" oil on canvas by Luigi Premazzi (Milan 1814-Constantinople 1891). Luigi Premazzi trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, later attending the private school of Giovanni Migliara. His production is characterized by a repertoire of city views, mainly Milanese and later also of other Italian cities, executed in the dictates of perspective painting. His lush and precise painting also reflects the contemporary research of Luigi Bisi, from whom he draws documentary attention to architectural details. He exhibited regularly at the Promotrice di Torino between 1842 and 1848 and at the Brera's exhibitions. In 1850 he moved to St. Petersburg where he became a teacher at the "Imperial School of Fine Arts" in 1861, obtaining the chair of landscape. Despite his permanent stay in Russia, he continued to participate regularly in the Brera exhibitions and the Turin promoters, thanks to the great favor of the public and critics, which he had earned over the years. The painting was part of the furnishings of the Castle of Pomerio where it was purchased at the end of the 70s of the last century. Excellent conditions, first canvas, signed and dated 1860.
