Beautiful Russian Icon, particularly elegant and luminous, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, bishop of Myra, depicted in the center with an open book on which is written a passage from the Gospel of Luke (6:17) referring to the moment when Christ is about to pronounce the Sermon on the Mount.
On either side of the Saint are the figures of Christ blessing and the Madonna of Pokrov holding the veil to protect believers.
Patron saint of Russia, a very famous and beloved saint throughout the world, Saint Nicholas is invoked as the defender of children and protector of seafarers, virgin girls of marriageable age, schoolchildren, fishermen, sailors, pharmacists, lawyers and merchants.
He was born around 280 AD in Patara, in Asia Minor and was bishop of Myra, in Lycia, where he died between 345 and 352. In 1087 his remains were brought by a ship to Bari, where they are still located.
The icon stands out for the remarkable finesse of the painting and for an unusual luminosity, accentuated by the bright colors on the golden background.
We emphasize both the excellent quality of the work and its excellent state of preservation.
