Oil on canvas. Unsigned, but on the back there is a dedication "To Mrs. Clelia Mazzioli, with esteem Gaetano Bellei, January 23, 1909". The grand scene, set inside a working-class kitchen, depicts a woman reading cards to two girls, who are asking for explanations by pointing out the figures that appear and seem to compare them to a text placed on a chair. The artwork recalls the painting style of Gaetano Bellei, characterized by the strong realism with which the painter depicted, above all, scenes of daily peasant life; he is considered a master of portraying human affections, reactions, and sensations. The painting shows slight paint losses. It is presented in a period style frame.
