Orpheus charms the animals
Tapestry with petit point and gros point technique, in wool and silk
81 x 71 cm
This English tapestry, made with petit point and gros point technique, was created in the late 17th century, using a combination of wool and silk. The subject is taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses, with a representation of the scene of Orpheus charming the animals. The scene is made even more magical by the presence of fantastic animals, such as the dragon and in particular the unicorn.
