Pair of carved and gilded 'alla Sansovino' mirrors
Venetian carver active in the 18th century.
This precious pair of Venetian frames, the work of an 18th-century carver, displays all their opulence, carved in high relief with a rich decoration of intertwined flat volutes, fruit festoons with cherubic heads, and full figures of angels.
These are two beautiful works defined as Sansovinesque, or 'alla Sansovino', named after the famous Italian Renaissance architect and sculptor Jacopo Sansovino (1486-1570).
On the sides of each frame, we find two full-figure angels, with faces hinting at a smile and framed by curly hair.
The base of the mirrors is finally decorated with a winged cherub's face placed between two garlands adorned with flowers.
