Winter Landscape
Pencil
Dimensions: 315 x 240 mm
A typical drawing with Lombard sensitivity depicting a section of wooded landscape. Constructed using strong chiaroscuro contrasts reminiscent of Lombard post-impressionist chromatism. The rapid, nervous, and dense strokes construct tall tree trunks with bare branches positioned on the sides almost like theatrical wings. The background and foreground are blurred, smudged by the pencil's glazing, suggesting a winter morning where everything is surrounded by the sound of silence and enveloping foggy atmospheres. The sheet is applied to a thicker brown cardboard on which, in the lower right, a dedication reads: To my dearest friend ... / Achille Cattaneo.
