Cesare Maccari
(Siena 1840 - Rome 1919)
Male figure
Pencil and chalk
Measurements: mm 353 x 240
In this sheet we see the vigorous and careful study of the drapery that dresses a male figure standing, facing the viewer. It would seem to be a figure in oriental dress. The face is not investigated but the artist's attention is focused on the dress that descends plastically to the ankles, to show the position of the feet and shoes. A faster and parallel sign creates chiaroscuro that shows the importance of light. The choice of a cerulean paper enhances the black charcoal and white lead. Red stamp at the bottom left: within a cartouche Inventory Studio/Maccari, n 56.
