Oil on canvas, 54.5 × 78 cm
On the back, there is the label of the First Provincial Exhibition Pistoia July-September 1929, Sacred Art Section, with the indication of the Giovanni Mazzei collection. In this pair of canvases, the theme, which had so much success between Caravaggio and his followers, of the comparison between the horror of the severed head of the enemy and the exhibited and brazen youth of the biblical hero and heroine is resolved in an elegant painting, graceful in the coloristic highlights and crackling draperies: a taste, that of the last Medici, which opens to the eighteenth century.
The works are accompanied by a study by Professor Francesca Baldassarri.
