Directory period, circa 1790
Saucier (Sauce boat)
Porcelain, cm 17 x 24
The precious sauce boat here presented, bears decorations typical of the Directory period, characterized by a sober style with simple and linear shapes. Compared to the previous Louis XVI style, the shapes are considerably simplified and soft, although they do not lose their elegance and at the same time do not stiffen. The name of the Directory Style refers to the government that lasted in France from 1795 to 1799, after the Revolution and before Napoleon's empire.
