Gothic chest-strongbox, Veneto, 15th century

Gothic chest - strongbox. (Dimensions 79.5 x 50.5 height 42.5cm) Provenance: Veneto Period: mid-15th century In solid walnut, with characteristic dovetail joints clearly visible on the sides, the strongbox, of contained proportions, is adorned on the front by elaborate lock fittings with a double opening mechanism. On the sides it is equipped with handles and perforated rosette plates with slender phytomorphic motifs of late Gothic taste as on the front.The inner face of the lid, with strap hinges recessed into the wood, were adorned at the ends with perforated medallions unfortunately missing and the traces remain. Furthermore, it appears soberly inlaid with geometric designs in boxwood and walnut. Inside it has a series of compartments also listed by light threads.
